School Street Pilot Scheme in Elizabeth Street to become permanent – January 2025

The School Street Pilot Scheme in Elizabeth Street was a trial initiative designed to improve safety and air quality by temporarily closing the road during peak school drop-off and pick-up times. The intention was to create a safer, cleaner environment for students, parents, and local residents.

Due to a successful trial period and positive public feedback, the Roads Committee has announced that it will support making the scheme permanent, which is to come into effect from January 2025. This scheme also aligns with Jersey’s commitment to developing safer walking and cycling routes for families traveling to school, as outlined in the Common Strategic Policy 2023 to 2026​.
