Tracy O’Regan from Jersey Stroke Support said, “World Stroke Day provides an important opportunity to bring our community together and shine a light on a condition that can have a life-changing impact on individuals, families and carers. High blood pressure is one of the major risk factors for stroke, so offering free blood pressure checks is an important part of helping people take a proactive approach to their health”, “We want people to leave the event feeling better informed about how they can reduce their risk of stroke, how to recognise the warning signs and what to do if they suspect someone is having a stroke. Just as importantly, we want Islanders to know that support is available and that they do not have to navigate the challenges of stroke alone.”
Drop in during your lunch break and take advantage of a free blood pressure check while finding out more about the support available in the community.
Join our Q&A panel from 1:00–2:00pm with Tom Binet, Minister for Health and Social Services, Tracy O’Regan (Jersey Stroke Support), Dr Shyam Kelavkar, Consultant Physician, and Wayne English, stroke survivor, to discuss stroke prevention, recovery and support.
Organisations attending include: Call&Check, EYECAN, Family Nursing and Home Care (FNHC), Headway Jersey, Jersey Cheshire Home, St John Ambulance, Stroke Association, Jersey Stroke Support, Jersey Heart Support, Sophie Read Neurological Association, Diabetes Jersey, CNS Neuro Rehab, Disability & Inclusion Team, Help2Quit, Pensions & Care Hub, WorkWell, Connect Me Directory, Customer Experience Team and Digital Telecare.

What is an Expert by Experience?
Being an Expert by Experience means using your own lived experience of disability, health, social care or support services to help improve the experiences of others. You bring a perspective that professionals and organisations may not have, helping them understand what works well, what creates barriers and what needs to change. As an Expert by Experience, you may be involved in research, service design, training, focus groups, consultations or reviewing policies. Your voice can help challenge assumptions, reduce stigma and make services more inclusive, accessible and person-centred. Most importantly, you are not expected to be an expert because you have all the answers—you are valued because your lived experience is knowledge, and your contribution can help make sure that decisions affecting those with disabilities are informed by the people who experience them.
We look forward to seeing you soon and, as ever, if you have any questions or queries, please do not hesitate to reach out to us on 01534 485740 or [email protected].
