Safer Routes to School – Highway Improvements Near St Saviour’s School (Bagatelle Road)

As part of the Department for Infrastructure’s Safer Routes to School programme, a package of highway and road safety improvements is being delivered near St Saviour’s School to support safe, active travel—particularly walking and cycling—for pupils, parents, and the wider community.
The scheme also aims to improve overall traffic flow and access in the surrounding area.
Key features include:
- A new 3-metre-wide shared path across the field between Le Clos Paumelle and La Rue de la Retraite, with potential for future extension
- A Puffin crossing directly opposite the school’s main entrance
- Improved visibility at the La Rue de Patier junction
- Pedestrian courtesy crossings on both sides of the La Rue de Patier junction
- A 1-metre roadside buffer to improve safety during school drop-off and pick-up times
- A designated HGV unloading bay to facilitate the safe delivery of school meals
- Improved pedestrian access to the nearby bus stop
- Upgraded street lighting to support safer travel during darker hours
The design has been carefully developed to encourage walking and cycling by improving safety and reducing daily conflict between pedestrians, cyclists, and vehicles. Wherever possible, the scheme limits changes to the landscape—preserving mature trees and replacing others with semi-mature planting to maintain the character of the area.
The Parish welcomes these improvements and looks forward to the benefits they will bring to both the school and the wider community.
An exhibit stand featuring the plans and further information will be available to view at the Parish Hall for two weeks from Tuesday 2nd July. In the meantime, please contact [email protected].
