Consultation on a National Day and Anthem for Jersey
We would like to share an important initiative that seeks to honour our cherished Island Identity while engaging the voices of our community. A consultation on Jersey’s national day and official anthem will launch on Monday, 18 November, running until 18 January 2025.
This consultation is an opportunity for us to reflect on what makes Jersey unique. It is about celebrating our history, preserving our culture, and strengthening our identity both locally and internationally. Our island’s rich heritage is a source of pride, and through initiatives like this, we continue to define what Jersey stands for in the modern world.
Why This Matters
The proposal to adopt Liberation Day as Jersey’s official national day and Beautiful Jersey as our official anthem carries deep symbolic meaning. Liberation Day is a poignant reminder of resilience and freedom, while Beautiful Jersey encapsulates the heart and soul of our island, bridging past, present, and future.
Both reflect our unique story while giving our people a shared identity to celebrate, and they present an opportunity to honour our culture and traditions in a way that resonates on the global stage. At the same time, we remain mindful of respecting our historical ties and the Commonwealth connections and Europe that have shaped us.
Your Voice Matters
This is your Jersey, and we want to hear from you. Whether you agree with the proposals or have alternative ideas, your feedback is essential in shaping the decisions that will go before the States for debate in 2025.
If there is public and States support, Liberation Day and Beautiful Jersey will be adopted ahead of next year’s Liberation 80 celebrations, making 2025 a landmark year in affirming our identity.
