Maison St Louis Closure – Update
Background
On 30 January 2025, a significant section of the retaining wall at Maison St Louis collapsed, resulting in the immediate closure of the public road for safety reasons. We fully recognise the disruption, concern, and inconvenience this has caused to local residents and parishioners.
This incident presents a complex set of challenges involving multiple parties. It is important to note that the Parish does not own the wall and has no direct involvement in its repair. Nevertheless, we remain committed to supporting all efforts to ensure the road is reopened as soon as it is safe to do so.
Public Impact
We understand and share the community’s frustration. The continued closure of the road affects commuters, visitors, and especially nearby residents.
However, the Parish’s primary concern is public safety. The road cannot be reopened — not even for pedestrian access — until the essential debris removal and wall stabilisation works have been completed and certified as safe by qualified structural engineers.
We assure you that we are working closely with the relevant parties to support a safe and timely resolution.
Routes and Safety Measures
Following a detailed review, the current diversion routes will remain in place to ensure the safety of residents in Maison St Louis and to minimise disruption to the surrounding area. Traffic is being redirected via the junction of Highlands Lane and Maison St Louis as part of these measures.
We strongly urge all pedestrians and drivers to follow the designated diversion routes and avoid using the entrance to Maison St Louis from Wellington Road. These arrangements are essential for the safety of the community and all road users.
Next Steps
A team of professionals, appointed by the property owners and their insurers, is now in place. They are currently developing a detailed plan to:
• Remove debris obstructing the road
• Undertake temporary wall stabilisation works
We expect to receive a confirmed timeline from the project team shortly and will share details as soon as they become available.
The project remains under continuous review to ensure the safest and most effective approach is followed.
In the meantime, the road will remain closed until all safety concerns have been fully addressed.
Further Updates
We will continue to keep the community informed. Updates will be posted on the Parish of St Saviour website as further information becomes available.
Thank you for your continued patience and understanding.
