STORM AUSTEN PARISH SERVICES UPDATE

Update: 22 October 2026 13:15

The Parish is continuing to monitor Storm Austen, which is expected to affect the Channel Islands from late Thursday evening through Friday, bringing very strong winds and periods of heavy rain. Further unsettled weather is also possible over the weekend.

The most significant period is currently expected overnight and throughout Friday morning, when severe gale to storm-force winds are forecast. Heavy showers or persistent rain are also possible, with a risk of thunderstorms.

Following a review by the Parish of St Saviour emergency preparedness team, we would like to reassure parishioners that Parish services are expected to remain available. Some operational arrangements are being adjusted to protect the public, our workforce and our volunteers, and all services will remain subject to live safety assessments as conditions develop.

šŸ›ļø ā˜Žļø PARISH HALL 01534 735864

The Parish Hall is expected to remain open during our normal Friday opening hours, and our team will be available to assist parishioners. Please note that the Parish Hall is closed on Saturday and Sunday.

We will continue to monitor conditions and will communicate any changes to Parish services if necessary.

Our normal telephone service will remain available. Outside normal office hours, the Parish answerphone will be monitored for messages relating to Parish matters. More information, please visit our website on www.stsaviour.je

šŸš› REFUSE & RECYCLING SERVICE COLLECTIONS

Friday’s scheduled refuse collections are expected to continue. However, because the strongest winds are currently forecast for the early morning, which will be persistent throughout the day, we have taken the precautionary decision to defer collection services to Monday morning.

Please bear with us if your collection takes place later than usual. We will make every reasonable effort to complete scheduled collections once conditions allow and will provide a further update if a significant delay is necessary.

Please ensure waste and recycling bins are securely positioned so they cannot be blown into roads, footpaths or other public areas.

🌿 šŸ› ļø HIGHWAYS & PARISH PROPERTY SERVICES

Our Highways team will monitor conditions across the Parish and, once it is safe to do so, will be deployed to:

  • clear fallen branches and debris from Parish roads;
  • undertake street cleaning where required;
  • inspect affected gullies and drainage points;
  • check public spaces and Parish property; and
  • respond to hazards affecting pedestrians or road users.
  • checks of parish public spaces and property

Our operatives will not be deployed into unsafe conditions, and some issues may need to wait until the strongest winds have passed. The Highways Team response will continue into the weekend where required, subject to live conditions and safety assessments.

šŸŒ§ļø LANDOWNERS, OCCUPIERS AND BUSINESSES

Please ensure that waste and recycling bins, commercial containers, signage, garden furniture and other loose items are securely stored or restrained, particularly where they are close to roads, footpaths or public areas.

šŸš— TRAVELLING ON FRIDAY MORNING

Based on recent weather advice, the strongest conditions are currently expected overnight and throughout Friday morning.

If possible, please avoid unnecessary travel during the most severe conditions. If you do need to travel, allow additional time and remain alert for:

  • fallen branches or trees;
  • debris on roads;
  • temporary road obstructions;
  • localised surface water; and
  • disruption to public transport and other services.

šŸ‘® HONORARY POLICE – DUTY CENTENIER 07797 716661

The Honorary Police will continue to provide support where required. However, we will not place our volunteers at unnecessary risk, and attendance may need to be delayed until conditions are safe.

For an immediate emergency or danger to life, please call 999 or 112.

Our message is simple: prepare where you can, stay informed, avoid unnecessary travel during the strongest winds and look out for one another.

We will continue to monitor conditions and issue further service updates if necessary.

Thank you for your cooperation, and please stay safe.
