The Parish of St Saviour has proudly offered a comprehensive household recycling collection service since its initiation in October 2019. We also offer Glass Recycling and General Waste Collections.

Glass Recycling is also collected separately once a month.

Performance and Targets

Our refuse and recycling collections are monitored and analysed monthly to measure and evaluate our performance, set targets, and report.

Our data is also used to check that we are meeting the requirements of the Government of Jersey and helping to achieve the Island’s recycling targets.

Efficient Resource Management: Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle

In our ongoing effort to promote responsible waste management, it is crucial to highlight the significance of recycling and waste reduction practices. These actions not only contribute to cost savings, but also have a far-reaching positive impact on the environment. By adhering to the principles of reduce, reuse, and recycle, we collectively play a role in conserving valuable resources and minimizing our carbon footprint.

Recycling is a key component of sustainable waste management. It involves the conversion of used materials into new products, which conserves energy, reduces water consumption, and helps preserve finite resources on a global scale. While recycling is undeniably important, an even more effective approach is to minimize waste generation from the outset. Each one of us can make a meaningful contribution through various means:

  • Smart Purchasing: Making informed and eco-conscious choices when shopping can significantly reduce waste. Consider buying only what you need, opting for products with minimal packaging, and choosing items with a longer lifespan.
  • Reuse and Donation: Extend the life of products by reusing them whenever possible. Donating gently used items to charities or local organisations ensures that they continue to serve a purpose, reducing overall waste.
  • Repair and Maintenance: Repairing items instead of discarding them is an eco-friendly practice. It not only saves money, but also minimizes waste by keeping goods in circulation.
  • Upcycling: Transforming old or discarded items into new and creative pieces is a fun way to reduce waste. Upcycling gives a second life to objects that would otherwise end up in landfills.

From having damaged belongings repaired to donating clothing to charitable organisations, these actions collectively contribute to waste reduction. We all share the responsibility for the management of our waste and belongings we no longer need. Your participation in these efforts is greatly appreciated as we work together to enhance recycling and minimize waste in St Saviour.

Recycling and Waste Services

Assisted Collections Service

Assisted collections are available to people who can’t take their bins out themselves and there is no other person living at the household who is able to help. We can help you take your bin out if you are elderly, disabled, have an injury or visually impaired, or any other issue that prevents them presenting their bins for collection.

We can collect your bins from an agreed location on your property, and then return them to the same place when we’ve emptied them.

Conditions for Eligibility

Proof of Eligibility: You may be required to show proof (rate payer) that you live in the Parish to qualify for this service.

Household Capability: If you live with someone capable of handling refuse duties, you may not qualify for assisted collections. This service can be withdrawn if it is determined that you are no longer eligible.

Bin Placement: Please inform us where on your property the bags or bins will be placed. Ensure that they are accessible and not behind locked gates or in secured areas. A site assessment is required by a member of the supervisory team within the waste and Recycling team.

Preparation for Collection:

If you use an additional bin for storing bags, ensure the bags are removed and placed on top of the bin on your collection day.

If our crew cannot access your bags or bins on the scheduled day, they will not return for a second collection attempt.

Service Availability: This service is available only to residents who present their bins or bags at the kerbside. It is not available to flats with communal bin stores.

We are here to help make recycling and waste disposal easier for everyone. Please contact us if you have any questions or need to apply for assisted collections.

Recycling Centres

There are a number of mini recycling centres or ‘bring banks’ in the parish and around the island.  Details can be found here

A Household Reuse and Recycling Centre and Household Garden Waste Reception are available at La Collette. Details can be found here:
